To disassemble the R7 there are 13 screws. The first 10 are obvious, and 3 more hidden screws under the 2 central pads on the bottom of the laptop. They require a Torx T7 screwdriver bit - a T8 or T6 or plain hex won't do as they're very shallow. Once RAM is replaced , on reboot go into the Bios (F2 at boot) and change the ram amount. This system has 4GB soldered (non replaceable on the motherboard and ONE ram slot. In the RAM slot is 2GB module = 6GB standard. To go to 12GB install a 8GB module + 4GB soldered on gives you a total of 12GB. The R7 comes with a standard SATA hard drive that can be replaced with a new SSD and also a 24GB caching module in a mSATA slot. The mSATA cache module can be replaced with a standard mSATA SSD.
