How good is the Thunderbolt case?

It is a very cool piece of tech, we use it in our office to do cloning. It is blazingly fast, we have seen it transfers data at 1.5gb per second. It uses Thunderbolt 2 which has a 10Gb/s Thunderbolt interface, which is why the file transfers are so fast. The case itself is an aluminum-alloy enclosure designed to tastefully complement your Mac's simple, clean lines. The case will use SSDs from Apple, Transcend and OWC (Auro Pro X2). It is perfect to reuse your Apple SSD for super fast external storage.

Free Toolbox software

This is something OWC, Crucial and Samsung do not have for their SSDs: software for Mac. They have all developed tools and software for PCs but have not ported it to the macOS. Transcend have made something for the Apple community, and it is excellent. Exclusively developed by Transcend, JetDrive Toolbox helps maintain a healthy and efficient SSD by keeping it up-to-date, preventing functional degradation, and predicting problems before they happen. JetDrive Toolbox clearly displays drive information, S.M.A.R.T. status for possible drive failure, health indicators for estimated lifespan, and facilitates firmware upgrades.

How to use this SSD

The common use of the Jetdrive 855 is to simply clone your current SSD onto the new Transcend SSD.
Clone from old SSD to new SSD
Plug the Transcend Jetdrive 855 case into Thunderbolt 2 port, use Disk Utilities to erase the drive (APFS format), clone via Disk Utilities or use software such as SuperSuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner, when clone is finished install new SSD. Restart the Mac and set new SSD as the Startup disk (System Preferences - Startup Disk).
Installing new macOS
OS Recovery can be started by turn on the mac and holding down one of three key combinations
Command - R = Reinstall the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac (recommended)
Option - Command - R = Upgrade to the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.
Shift - Option - Command - R = Reinstall the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version that's still available.
If the mac can not find a recovery partition it will need an internet connection. If your Time Machine is plugged in or accessible it will use Time Machine to create the OS Utilities page where you can reinstall the macOS.
As most OS installs will be on a new SSD with no data, it is important to enable internet access via wifi. If the mac starts and a spinning globe appears this means the mac is downloading what it needs for the Apple website.
Restore from Time Machine
Install new Jetdrive 855 SSD, plug Time Machine into the mac's USB port, restart mac holding down the option key or command - R. Once OS Utilities page loads use Disk Utilities to erase the SSD as APFS format, restore from Time Machine.
