Jetdrive 850 SSD With Tools

Transcend's JetDrive 850 utilises the PCIe Gen3 x4 interface paired with the latest 3D NAND flash, resulting in compelling performance of up to 1,600MB/s read and 1,400MB/s write. Transcend's JetDrive 850 gives you fluid, real-time performance for demanding professional tasks, video editing, or 3D graphics rendering.

This is a SSD blade only but also includes the two tools you need to replace your SSD. Includes a T5 screwdriver and a P5 screwdriver. The P5 is used to remove the screws on the bottom of your Macbook Pro/Air and the T5 removes the screw that holds down the SSD.

Free Toolbox software

This is something OWC, Crucial and Samsung do not have for their SSDs: software for Mac. They have all developed tools and software for PCs but have not ported it to the macOS. Transcend have made somethign for the Apple community, and it is excellent. Exclusively developed by Transcend, JetDrive Toolbox helps maintain a healthy and efficient SSD by keeping it up-to-date, preventing functional degradation, and predicting problems before they happen. JetDrive Toolbox clearly displays drive information, S.M.A.R.T. status for possible drive failure, health indicators for estimated lifespan, and facilitates firmware upgrades.

How to use this SSD

Starting with a new macOS or restoring from Time Machine, you only need a new SSD. The JetDrive 850 is perfect solution. If you want to clone or reuse the Apple SSD as fast external storage then buy the Jetdrive 855 solution that includes a Thunderbolt external case.
Installing new macOS
OS Recovery can be started by turn on the mac and holding down one of three key combinations
Command - R = Reinstall the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac (recommended)
Option - Command - R = Upgrade to the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.
Shift - Option - Command - R = Reinstall the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version that's still available.
If the mac can not find a recovery partition it will need an internet connection. If your Time Machine is plugged in or accessible it will use Time Machine to create the OS Ultitlities page where you can reinstall the macOS.
As most OS installs will be on a new SSD with no data, it is important to enable internet access via wifi. If the mac starts and a spinning globe appears this means the mac is downloading what it needs for the Apple website.
Clone from old SSD to new SSD
The quickest and easiest method is to buy the Jetdrive 855 which has a cloning case. As it is Thunderbolt 2, we have seen it transfer data at 1.5gb per second! We have completed a 500gb clone in an hour.
Clone with Jetdrive 855 = Plug case into Thunderbolt 2 port, erase the drive in APFS format in Disk Utilities, clone via Disk Utilities or using SuperSuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner, when clone is finished install new SSD.
Double Clone (without a clone case) = you need external hard drive, erase the drive in APFS format in Disk Utilities, use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable clone, replace the ssd with new Jetdrive 850, restart the mac holding down the option key, select the external clone and boot off the new clone, use Disk Utilities to erase the Jetdrive 850 in APFS format, use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone from external clone to new Jetdrive 850. When clone is finished restart the mac with external clone drive unplugged. Set new Jetdrive 850 as the Startup Disk.
Restore from Time Machine
Install new Jetdrive 850 SSD, plug Time Machine into the mac's USB port, restart mac holding down the option key or command - R. Once OS Utilities page loads use Disk Utilities to erase the SSD as APFS format, restore from Time Machine.
